Shinkendo can be
translated as "Way of the True Sword". Shinkendo emphasizes traditional, and effective swordsmanship, which leads to both practical ability as well as an understanding of classical martial arts. This art is a comprehensive study of what the Japanese samurai once practiced and depended on, and is an amalgamation of several styles of Japanese sword. Training will include sword swinging drills as well as combative sword drawing and cutting forms practiced alone that simulate combat. In addition we will cover sword etiquette and safe handling skills. Regular practice of Shinkendo will foster increased focus, concentration and memory skills in addition to upper body and core toning. Shinkendo is practiced from standing positions and does not require kneeling.

Although all necessary precautions will be taken, there is a possibility of injury due to the nature of the physical movements involved.
